Route 3: Port de Salau (Pallars Sobirà) Salau – Alós d’Isil

For centuries, the Port de Salau pass was the epicentre of communications between Ariège and Pallars Sobirà. In May 1938, this path facilitated the exile of Spanish republicans following the occupation of the region by Franco’s army. As of 1939, it would serve as a refuge in Spain for those fleeing the Nazis. Sometimes those refugees would rest in the Bordes de Perosa cabins before setting out on the journey along the Noguera Pallaresa River towards Alós d’Isil and Esterri d’Aneu.

Signposted points of interest: Port de Salau, Refugi del Fornet (refuge) and Alós d’Isil.
